What are the current standards for commercial television streaming...

1 - to be viewed on computer screens?
2 - to be viewed on tablets?
3 - to be viewed on smartphones?
4 - to be viewed on large screen tv sets via Chromecast, Roku, Sony TV, Apple, TV?

And
5 - what are the top devices like Chromecast, Roku, etc ?
6 - Which are being built into Smart TV Sets?

Thanks for any info.

There are none. Every delivery medium, device, and set is different.
4mbps 720p mp4 should play on most systems.

There are none (where did I hear that ?).

Having said that, I think most streaming video is now encoded using AVC/MP4. Other earlier formats, like WMV, are not used much any more.

Smaller and older devices cannot handle the Main or High profile and you must use Baseline for those. Best advice is to try to get a summary of the devices your users have and try to find some sort of common denominator.

Musicvid's advice is very sound for general distribution, but you will still need to decide about what profile to use.

100% correct, John.
My rule of thumb is not the lowest common denominator, but is close to the norm for playability on dual core processors or better and ADSL connections. It's comparable to what works on Vimeo.

As far as profile, I forgot to mention that I deliver 100% Main Profile. Comparing devices, that covers about everything made since the earlier iPhones and original PlayStation. The compression advantage of Main over Baseline is tremendous (~20%), while the advantage of High over Main is only about another 5%, and takes longer to encode, and more CPU to decode.
