OT: Where ARE the forums for discussion of politics and movie-making?

BrianStanding wrote on 6/30/2004, 9:07 AM
In the recent bruhaha over the thread of Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11, several people stated that there are other forums more suitable for discussions of this type.

Taking the suggestion to heart, I am now trying to find them.. and am coming up empty. Oh, sure, there are plenty of political discussion groups, but I can't find any that are focused on the political aspects of film-making, especially documentaries. And there are plenty of video & film editng forums, but the moderators of all these venues get queasy whenever the "p-word" crops up. Even the DV Info Net's "Totally Off Topic" forum has a "no Michael Moore discussion" policy, saying "it's too divisive."

I'm honestly not trying to bash this forum or Sony's moderation, or to start another long, off-topic thread. Just looking for suggestions. Thanks.

There is also a discussion group for this at dvinfo.net, and at dmnforums.com

Like I said in my original post, DV Info Net is leery of political discussion.

I'll check out the DMN forums, too.

Jay:
I can't get your forum to register. It keeps kicking out my name and says it is not valid.

Those interested in the documentary film genre might want to visit the Off Topic Vegas Forum where Brian Standing has set up and interesting discussion on documentary films, among other things.

My most used and supportive forum for years has been the Bcastvideo at the FAST forums. It has just rebuilt its web site front end and covers not only many editing systems along with Vegas but editing and broadcast discussions along with thoughts, ideas and such. I visit other sites, I learn at this one for my business and video. A bit different than here for editing and production discussions. Enjoy.

Besides forums there are many political newsgroups. Most are pretty wild, some have lots of traffic like 800 or more posts a day. If you think Zippy was a wild characer, you ain't seen nothing till you visit some of the wilder political newsgroups.

"I know Documentary. He's a friend of mine. You ,"Spiderman 2", are no Documentary."

Anyone got a problem with that? Well, take it over to the wonderful new forum Jay created (referenced in a previous post.) Thanks Jay!

Not to take anything away from the new forum, but since MM is going to be on Charlie Rose tonight, chances are there will be a lot of good debating about his new movie on the CR forum, which happens to be my favorite political forum:

even though I don't watch the show... heheh :)

I just got back after 2 weeks...man Orlando was way too hot for my taste. Anyhow - maybe I missed somehting getting nuked but used to be right here in these forums was the place to dicuss film making and the politics of it. It seems that the mention of MM and film making can cause some near riot conditions however. If we have gotten to the point (or Sony has gotten to the point) where we can only talk about Sony products and only say nice things about them than this forum will have taken a dive because it used to be one of the best places to pick peoples minds about almost all things film and video (And PC) related.

So what did I miss while I was gone?

"So what did I miss while I was gone? " . . ah, just the same old, Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n Roll! - Bush Bashing, general mayhem and rioting on these mean streets - updates and downloads; issues with "issues" ; misuse and misbehaviour . .

Yer know, the usual . .people just "rubbing" along trying to make an honest quid or two .. . There's been a stonkin' thread on capture .. hmmm.. kept me up all night long . . . ;-)

Oh, then several people .. this was a cliff hanger . .bit most of my nails off . . where someone wanted to know how to "split" an event . .

Having another place to discuss politics and the art of film making? Why on earth not! Have it there . . .. have it here. . have it down the local cafe or pub .. I really don't care . .as long as we are HAVING it . . . the technical stuff and being "sycophantic" towards Sony . .yeah well that's a matter of taste . .

Good to see you back filmy . .
