P_L : Really ? That's almost impossible ! Is it Pierre-Louis ? ( I wouldn't say old then, my other english teacher could be qualified like this (hehe mr. Cranson (no offence to him I liked him a lot)
Chienworks: that's a neat idea. I have a small suggestion, though. Would it be difficult to add a zoom feature of some sort? After a while, certain areas will be nothing but solid white, which would make selecting specific people difficult. Even a 5x zoom would probably be enough.
Sadly, that would make the project vastly more complicated than it is now. At the moment, the whole thing is less than 100 lines of Perl code with a single static .gif image. I'll keep it in mind for future idle moments though :)
P_L : Small world indeed ! I never thought I could meet my english teacher around here :) I'm always surprised to see that teachers remember students even after a few years, although it doesn't surprise me that much since you are/were known at St-Laurent as being the "teacher that knows a lot of things on pretty much everything" :)
The company works pretty well, I have an associate which was also a student at St-Laurent (Simon Roux). I'm taking a small break next year, I will study Electroacoustic composition at University.
Sadly, Vegas isn't well recognized in schools, Macs are usually the standard and people run either FCP or Premiere (wheeeww).
How is life going at St-Laurent ?
Nat:
Life at St-Laurent is fine, especially since it's summer vacation. :)
It's so great to hear you're doing well. I'm just a Vegas hobbyist, but if more and more pros like you and Simon (say hi to him from me) continue establishing Vegas, I'm sure it'll catch on even more. Not to mention it has a great forum, with knowledgeable and helpful folks like Chienworks.
Hey thanks Kelly, I've often wondered what this map would look like. I hardly recognize any names though, can you create another entry for their handle since almost eveyone uses one.
Thanks again Chien...I mean Chienworks ...I mean Kelly,
Randy, i've added a "Forum ID" field. Of course, this is blank for everyone who's already put themselves on the map. If anyone wants to add their handle or correct any other information in the list, please email me at whereareyou@vegasusers.com
FuTz : yes, he was my teacher, that's funny, world seems so small in this forum !
What's your name Futz, i'll ask him about you, he remembers his students pretty well.
Chienworks: Perhaps one could just link the main map to, say, a second page which showed only the North American continent? Later on it might be necessary to do the same thing with our Euro-spending friends.
In any event, a cool example of your programming talents.
fUtZ: I also teach at UofM (and McGill), but I'm afraid I don't know an Henri-Paul Chevrier. What department is he in? Small world, but big schools! :)
Fascinating to see all the countries represented, including The Philippines, Iceland, Greece, Germany, Portugal, Finland, Sweden, Ireland, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Austria, England, New Zealand ... it starts to make this seem like a pretty small planet after all.
Henri-Paul is the director of cinema studies at St-Laurent, quite a guy, ask someone who studies cinema and he might say that he's afraid to attend Henri-Paul's classes :)
He can be quite terrible when he wants, but he's an excellent teacher. Some students can't stand his attitude, but if you can get along with him you'll pass the 2 most wonderful years at St-laurent :)
Chein-- Kick Ass! I finally have tangible proof that Vegas users are the most obsessed in the world!
Peter/PCH-- You're in Cleveland? I lived there for a year-- 2001/2002--(Westlake, actually), and I'm heading up to North Olmstead next weekend to pick up a preamp. If you're in town, let me know & I'll treat you to a Caribou latte. We don't have those in Toledo, I'm afraid...
--David, are you going to the NLE Shootout in Cleveland on Tuesday? If so, I'll see you there! Anyone else going?
I wish! As much as I want to, I'm going to be working overnight Monday and Tuesday (damn you PBS!)... so I'm going to have to just continue with my assumption that, yup, Vegas kicks ass. Period.
For the record, I'm also going to miss (if I haven't already) the Project5 demo at Guitar Center. Oh darn... looks as if I'm going to have to stick with Reason!
Nat: I doubt he remembers me: very low profile in a 60-student class in '87. But I sure remember HIM, hahaha! Liked him a lot 'cause he wouldn't "pass by Gibraltar" to explain some simple, basic things...
Do you know B.Kaspa... ? I'm a good friend of him/work with him some times...
