The Dell 2209WA seems to be getting a lot of good reviews ..

As far as LG and Samsung, there can be a wide range of performance, even within the same brand, but they both have good reputations.
I have a Samsung 24 and a 22; both are just fine for my needs..

I would recommend you establish a budget - and get the best panel you can within that budget ...

My suggestion would be stay away from Samsung (I have one). The field of view is too narrow.

I really like my Dell 2408WFP monitors, I've got quite a few of them. Great color, wide viewing angle, plus composite, S-video, component, DVI, VGA and HDMI inputs. I had a small problem with one of them a few years ago and Dell had a brand new one on my doorstep the very next day.

Depends on what you want to spend - I have a 2709WFP Dell 27" monitor and the color is just incredible - sooo much that I was missing on my other monitors.

The viewing angle is very wide, lots of inputs, PIP, wide enough to run multiple applications side by side and when I let Vegas fill the screen its easy to work with everything. Have it set with 1920x1200 resolution which is perfect for viewing the full detail of HD output from my SR11. Same guy is still selling them - but now for less of course - $749

Bought on Ebay for several hundred less than Dell with a 5 year advance exchange warranty that was transferred into my name.

After using 32 inch monitors I wonder why anyone would consider sqinting at a smaller one.

My main computer monitor is a 24" Samsung 2443bw (which is nothing special, but the price was right), but I also have my computer connected to the 46" Toshiba 120Hz HDTV mounted on the wall nearby, and after using that I've got to wonder why you'd consider squinting at a mere 32" monitor :P

Pshaw!!
I'm going to get my 52" Bravia and put it beside my computer.
All I need is a wireless keyboard otherwise I'll be sitting on top of it :-)

Thanks guys. My budget is around $300 CDN. I'd like to avoid ordering online and most places around here sell LG, Samsung, Acer, etc.

Or vice-versa.

Rob, it's a wee bit too big to have sitting on my lap :-)

Squinting - Hah - I have to keep my chair pushed back from my desk to keep from getting tired of turning my head back and forth looking from one side to another of my mere 27" :) Guess I need to get something bigger than 52" to stay with the pack in this conversation - maybe an LCD Projector?

Are you in Toronto? I got my Samsung 2443BW from a store called Filtech Computer, and I've been pretty happy with it so far. It isn't a 12-bit panel or anything, but it's perfectly acceptable for most applications. It's about $350, and while Future Shop has it for $330 the FS one includes a stand without height adjustment. The one I got has a height adjustable stand and USB hub (this monitor can come with like 3 or 4 different versions of the stand).

When I've finally had enough of the spare CRT I keep around for when I need more accurate colours, I may pick up one of Lacie's higher end LCDs. But this Samsung is perfectly fine for most things.
