OT: Windows browser Internet Explorer 7 and MP3's

This has been driving me nuts for some time. When trying to click on an mp3 link to listen to it using IE7 on my desktop, the window opens and it says it's downloading, but instead of playing, it says "Error on page" preceded by a yellow exclamation mark.

My laptop with IE6 works fine.

I've tried Google searches and get a ton, but no concrete answers to fixing my problem.
I've tried setting QT as the default mp3 player.
I've tried setting Windows Media as the default mp3 player.
I've tried setting Realplayer as the default mp3 player.
I've tried several of the Goggled answers, and no joy.

Can anyone give me a clue?

Maybe try re-installing (updating) QT or WMP (current versions). Do mp3s in any form play on your system? If not could it be that your "File Types" settings are not configured for mp3? I really have no clue but those are the things I would try.

I seem to recall having this problem with QT files once - a long time ago. A codec was missing or I updated QT, something like that and it was solved. Best of luck.
