OT: Windows update adds Sony BMG kill bit

From "Perimeter Scan" (Peter Russell):

... this Patch Tuesday brought us a new Internet Explorer cumulative update. In addition to fixing the usual slew of Internet Explorer issues, including one that's already in the wild, Microsoft has set some "kill bits," a way to disable ActiveX controls.

One wishes they had done this a bit sooner, but MS says they waited for formal permission from Sony BMG to do it...

ActiveX seems to be an idea whose time has come--and gone.

Many millions (myself included) are happily using Firefox, which ignores ActiveX and seems to do quite well, regardless.
