OT - Wireless Solution - 1 problem though..

Decided to dump my wireless mic system in favor of a mini-disc recorder.

No more messing around with interfence/static for me

My idea is to hook a lapel mic up to line-input on minidisc recorder - press record and drop into grooms pocket - and just snyc up in post... Disc player is small enough that its not too cumbersume

(ps - WHY don't i see mp3 players with a RECORD feature and line in yet!! grrrr.. recording to flash memory would mean no moving parts and a little tiny box that could easily fit into pocket)

Anyways - the sound levels the disc player picks up aren't very good (manually adjusting recording level on disc player doesnt help much either). It is a LINE IN jack, and i am hooking it up to a mic - so thinking its not putting out enough "juice"??

(Audio-technica Lavalier Mic ATR35s - Condenser mic with power box on cord - really nice/inexpensive mic btw...)

With the exception of hooking it up to a mixer - which is obvisouly too big to fit in pocket... Does any one know of any products that could 'boost' the signal coming from my mic and small enough to fit in pocket/battery powered?

Maybe i just need a lesson on line in vs mic in jacks?

Thanks all

Quick lesson: a line in jack is looking for a signal in the range of 0.5 to 1.0 volts. Your microphone is probably putting out something around 0.001 volts. I'd be amazed that you end up recording anything usable at all.

Check out these digital voice recorders- after recording, dump to computer via USB, etc.

Check www.soundprofessionals.com, they have some miniature preamps to do what you want.

Thanks for info guys..

For the record.
i bought (and shortly returned there after) one of those olympus voice recorders.. the "high quality" audio on the product turned out to be a 12Khz sampling rate - awful

Found what i was looking for on corporatesound's tip on soundproffesionals.com
Here's the link if any one is interested in the same product.
Portable dual channel preamp/mic power supply

Wish it was a bit less then $189 bucks though...

thanks again all
