OT: Wondering if there is a way to trade stock footage

I was just musing on whether there was a service, web site, whatever, for videographers who want to exchange stock footage that they shoot with other videographers. NOTE THAT I AM TALKING ABOUT FOOTAGE THAT WE OWN, NOT COPYRIGHTED STUFF.

For example, I live in Arizona and I just shot some very lovely footage of a rainy day (!) in the beautiful red rocks of Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon. I have some nice mountain shots, rain on the creek, waterfalls, etc. But you know what I need? I need some footage of snow for our church Christmas production. Ain't gonna happen anytime soon for me... and we can't afford to buy royalty-free stuff that cost several hundred dollars...

So, I was wondering if anyone has in place a way for people to trade footage... any thoughts?

Getting there ... slowly. ;)

It won't be DV .avi files though. They're just too huge. High bitrate mpeg, mov, or wmv files are certainly doable. My new server will be online next weekend and i'll have a swap space running then.

Very cool. I love your transitions cd, have used it to great success twice now, and video sharing forum. I'll be there when your new server is up. DGrob

I have not checked it out yet but yo umight want to look at Sony's site that they love to brag about - screenblast.com. In all their PR they go on about downloadable "hollywood quality" footage that you can use.

I have some winter footage! :)

I work at a TV station and a couple years ago we got a good DVCPro camera. I went around getting some winder shots for stations and stuff.

There's a statue with a cannon infront of it with snow on it, some buildings, a tree or two. I also have some scenic/sunset type footage.

I may have some snow falling at home on Hi-8 (I did get some of the snowfall from 2 weeks ago).

I don't have access to a DV or MiniDV deck, so it would eigther be DVCPro or on a DVD.

Give me an e-mail at the_happy_friar (at) yahoo.com if you're interested. Since it's for your church i'd just ask for the cost of the media and a copy of your production on DVD if you're offering that. :)
