OT: writeDVD! and UDF

Does anyone know about the software writeDVD! from SAI? It came with my Pioneer 106 DVD drive.

Is there any reason to have this run when I start my computer? It creates a UDF formatted DVD. From what I can tell its main function is to format a DVD-RW so that you can use the DVD just like a floppy and drag and drop to it.

This is almost never how I use my DVD drive. Every time I put in a blank disc, it pops up and window and wants me to format it. Is this simply a "packet writing" utlity or does it do something else? Nero comes with InCD, their packet-writing program and I remember folks advised to uninstall that, because it caused more problems than it solved. I don't know if that is still the case with InCD, though.

I burn through Nero. Do I need to have writeDVD! on my machine?
Do I need to have writeDVD! run at startup.

Thanks,
buster.

If thats the same type of UDF for CD-RW, then I would guess NO, I have a AO5 and I do not get what you get. If it is causing a problem take it out, do a test burn to see if all is well. I use DVD-a to burn my disk

The UDF stuff can be convenient but I've been caught as the CDs are not necesarily readable on every machine. My advice, if you don't have a need for it loose it.

The Sony code cutters claim they've tracked many of the problems with DVDA to others code screwing up their code and never the other way around. If you know what dll hell is about you'll understand how that happens.

Thanks. I'll remove it from startup for now.
