OT: XDCAM EX ClipBrowser on Windows 7?

rs170a wrote on 4/24/2012, 9:18 AM
I've been happily using XDCAM EX ClipBrowser 2.60 to convert the mp4 files from my JVC to MXF.
My IT is getting ready to swap out the XP machines for Windows 7 ones and I'm curious as to whether this software will continue to work or not.
That Sony site does not mention whether it's Windows 7 compatible or not.

Mike, I use it on both Vista 64 and Win 7 64 and it functions perfectly on both platforms. My workflow is slightly different than yours in that I import the XDCAM EX (mp4) files via the Vegas device browser without rewraping them as MXF files (although I previously did so). By the way, do I recall correctly that you are a JVC GY-HM750 owner like me?

Peter, thanks for putting my mind at ease :)
Yes, I'm lucky enough to have one HM-700 and two HM-750s (College equipment but I still consider them to be "mine").
I tried using the Vegas device browser on XP but never could get it to work so that's why I use the ClipBrowser.

Which version of Vegas did you use when attemping to import via the device browser - or more correctly, device explorer (I am using version 10e)?. What specifically did not work? Lastly, I assume you were trying to use the device explorer and not the XDCAM explorer (which will not work despite its misleading name).

Pro 10.0e on XP Pro SP3.
I just tried it on one of my new office machines with Windows 7 and Device Explorer still won't see the SanDisk ImageMate 5 in 1 card reader (both 32 and 64 bit versions of Vegas).
All I get is a "device not connected" message.
Are you hooking the camera up directly?

I don't connect directly through the camera (never have) but access the files via a card reader (of which I have three). The readers that I use are one that is built into my laptop, a multi-card reader on my workstation, and a portable USB reader (like a flash drive) just for SD cards that I keep in a pocket of my camera case. All three techniques work perfectly. I strongly recommend get an SD-only reader like I described in that it is very portable and recognized by all computers on which I have ever tried it.

By the way, did you right-click on the words "No Device Connected" and then navigate to the drive/directory?

Colour me red for embarrassment :)
I was positive that I had tried that but I guess not as I just tried it and it worked.
Thanks for your time on this Peter as it was much appreciated.
