OT: YT Connection Speed Drops Dramatically

I've got a reasonably fast internet connection. The OOKLA download speeds are usually pegged at 100 Mbps. I start off watching something on YT and according to the Stats for nerds, connection speeds are usually 35 to 65 Mbps. After a few minutes (usually 3 or 4), connection speeds drop big time, often reaching 2 Mbps and soon the buffering starts. Same problem on my 2 desktops. Any suggestions?

Just a thought, but a firmware upgrade to your modem or wireless router may help, especially if you just increased your speeds from your provider.

Run a network monitor widget on your windows desktop. Something is throttling back; could be anywhere from an overloaded server or your ISP to a modem that needs to be replaced (every 5-6 years for a is considered normal).

I get this big time with centurylink. lots of posts about it online too. I cant determine if it is my ISP or Youtube. Youtube blames ISP, ISP blames Youtube, of course.

I have shown proof to my ISP that I can download a solid 40Mbps constantly from Google Drive, my id doesnt work for 4k video from youtube, during peak times - like when we are all at home after work surfing, but it seems to work great at 2am. Nice.

YOUTUBE could easily double their silly buffer timing restriction and fix this for MOST people.

Modem and router are new.

My suspicion is that it's YT doing the throttling back. This morning, I was able to watch continuously for 20 min with a connection speed of 89 Mbps. Last evening, even though YT was giving me problems, I could watch the same video on Vimeo without issue. Guess the solution is to not watch YT on a Friday evening.

If high connection speeds during the time of high traffic is indeed the problem, it seems that it could be fixed by limiting initial connection speed so that a dramatic throttling back could be avoided. But I'm not an engineer.
