Yes, I use the Sony version about $100. and up. Having only 1 hand on the camera makes a world of difference. John.

Thank J. Can you smooth into the zoom? I would hate to end up with jerky zooms.

Yes, the zoom control (thumb rocker type switch) has slow and fast zoom positions, but it takes a little practice. It's easy to press too hard and zoom too tight or wide. Best $100 I've spent this year. John

I use a Bogen 522 and like it a lot. It is well made and has very smooth and precise zoom control.

I use the zoom commander pro with my Sony VX2000, Canon GL-1, and GL-2 it also works with my Sony DSR11 DVCAM deck. I have been very happy with them. They are very smooth and controlable from 2 zoom settings. The settings are controlled with a dial and have a zoom 1 and a zoom 2. I have run three of the units from up to 100' away.

The Body of Peers have spoken. Thanks for your feedback. When I first saw this product I couldn't believe the price as the only other alternative at that moment were some of the rocker zooms from VeriZoom for much more money. Looks like ZC will be just fine. Thanks again.

I use this Canon zoom control on my VX2000:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006IZCY/102-9979784-0814519?v=glance

Works well but varaible aoom mode takes practice as described above. Has 5 presets. Went to B&H to buy it. Around $160 there at the time.

If you are on a tight budget, you could look into tripods with built in lanc zooms. Sometimes those are cheaper than buying the zoom control by itself. Throw away the cheap tripod and you have a zoom control.

The more expensive stuff from the likes of Varizoom is still good value for the money, just a bit too much money for most of us. I've used the cheaper Varizoom ones and the top line stuff and the control and ergonomics are definatley worth the money if it's how you make your living.
If you're short of the folding stuff though the moneys better spent on another camera or better tripod.
If you've got a DVX100 no need for LANC control so it's very easy to roll your own, $10 woth of bits and you're away.
