out come the unbelievers ...

I agree Sony could have told us they were changing address, but it's amazing how quickly anything that goes wrong equates to "There I told you, Sony's ditching Vegas"

How many times do they need to say - they like Vegas very much, that's why they bought it, and we can look forward to a very exciting future ........

Pessimism - schmessimism ...

Nah - God bless ya - not you Grazie

All you did was wonder what was going on - it was elsewhere that some jumped to armageddon type assumptions about being deserted!

armageddon out of here .....

Yep. I've been getting emails lately from irate people asking what is going on and why SONY is ditching the "pro" software and the forum. I guess they're asking me because i own vegasusers.com and expect me to have some inside info. *sheesh*

Here's the "official" scoop folks:

I'm just an end user like all of you are. I have no access to inside information. My only connection is that i buy licenses for this software like all of you do and if you click PARTNERS up at the top of the screen and look under Associates, you'll see me listed there. All that means is that i link to SONY from my website and i get a very tiny little cut of any sales generated by people clicking my links. (Go for it. You can do it too!) Vegasusers.com has no official connection with SONY or SonicFoundry and is not endorsed or supported by them (although i sincerely hope they approve of it). It's just my own little hobby, folks.

Vegas, SoundForge, and ACID rock! SONY thinks so too.

Now, SONY, please get these website problems fixed so that i don't have to answer any more of these irate emails! ;)

A little bit of communication isn't too much to ask of Sony such as:

"The Forums will be down as we are temporarily upgrading our servers".

Not too much to ask instead of:

" Our apologies. An error has occurred. Your request cannot be processed at this time".

Exactly. I visit Gamespy sites (mostly Planetquke.com) and every time they are going to work on a server you see a "The server will be down 2 days from now between 3a-8a PST. Sorry for the inconvience." message.

How hard is that?

Of course of son'y equipment just poops the bed, well, nothing you can do about that except buy new equipment because it's been happening since they started moving the forum over!

I e-mailed Sony thismorning aobut the forum (and a couple other things unrelated). Their DNS server is having problems. That's why the whole website was down.

SoFo has had problems with their web site for as long as I can remember. Either the site disappears totally for hours at a stretch or it takes forever to load the forum pages or it hangs when you post or when you're already picked an artice to read. And I'm on ultra fast broadband I pity anyone trying to access the forum on dial-up. I doubt the problem is truly fixed...yet. It sure should be. VERY unprofessional for a company the size of Sony to have a mickey mouse web site in the sense that is is constantly going down or having or DNS errors. or, or or... Geez fix it already!

Chienworks,

I e-mailed you regarding the site to see if you had any insight as to what happened to it--since I knew your site URL and figured you may have heard from others since they may also have your URL bookmarked. Or that someone else may have seen a notice that I had not seen (since I don't go to this forum that often).

I think I was one of the unbelievers who posted in those "other" forums yesterday. ...or maybe not. My post wasn't an I TOLD YOU SO, it was expressing dismay at possibly having been abandoned by the Big Company.

My reaction was somewhat knee-jerk, because it's happened before, with products and with my employment. "We've bought your company, but we fully intend to keep all of you on with no changes," said a different Big Company, a few months before shutting-down my former employer.

But I truly am hoping that Sony is gonna follow through the way they say they will. ...in fact, I'm on the verge of "believing" it!!

Hey, you didn't work for Westwood Studios, UPN, Sierra On-Line did you? :)
earthrisers wrote on 9/30/2003, 12:38 PM
No... it was a telecomm software company.

I've been happily consulting for a couple of years now since that shutdown, but it was kinda semi-traumatic for a bit.
