out of sync when multi-tracking

I hope someone can help:
I've been trying to use Vegas Audio as a multi-track and have not been able to get very far. I used Acid 3.0 to create the base of the song using the loops. Then I rendered that song and exported it into Vegas Audio, sounds great. But as soon as I try to record my first guitar track(or any other track), it records the track but when I play it back with my Acid track it slowly starts going out of sync. By the end of the song it's way off.

I've got a Celeron 800mhz
I've tried my on board audio as well as a sound blaster 16bit
I also have a brand new 10gb Hard drive but I must admit here, it's only 5400RPM
I'me running Windows 98SE
256 megs

Can anyone help!!!!!

Thanks,

Gregg

there were a couple of recent threads addressing this problem...do a search in the Vegas Family for "latency"...that will bring up some messages that should help you in you quest for the almighty sync...

I did a search beforehand for "latency" because I'm curious about the solution to this problem. The old forum threads don't seem to provide any closure on this subject. Anyone out there beat this thing? GreggS, keep us posted on yer progress. Did you check the DMA thingy?
