Output size does not match Project Properties

mstumpo wrote on 11/5/2002, 9:30 PM
Currently I have some video clips at 712x176. My Project Properties reports 712x176. However, when outputting to web or WM, all the videos come out as 200x200 (or their abouts).

What do I need to do to get the video output to match my Project Properties. I have also tried selecting one of my video overlay files (712x176) as the sixe for the output but that did not help.

Hmmm... Why 712x176?

Your ratios are
712x176 gives 4:1

In terms of "standard" ratio formats, I know the usual formats ratios -
16x9 gives 1.7:1
4x3 gives 1.3:1

But why are you going for 712x176?

Okay, for a creative reason - sure no problem, I'll accept this. But are you trying to put right something that has worked out incorrectly. Are you having some other problem that you are trying to remedy? If this is the case then perhaps we should be exploring that rather than - what I suspect - an inability of VF to correct a format VF is having a real problem in creating. I need to know more mstumpo - for at present you've got me STUMPOed!

I don't understand. Perhaps others have a view on this. I'm at sea with this and will be reading this thread with more than a little interest.

Grazie,

First off, I am totally new to video editing of any kind. So it might be that I just don't know what I'm doing:).

Having said that:

I have a video that I cropped to 712x176 (as you say for artistic reasons). I added some titling and a transition that blends into the cropped video.

While viewing the video in Video Factory on the right side it looks just the way I want it, however, when I create a WMV or a web page it is compressed into a 200x200 video that is much taller than wide.

So I created a new template using 712x176 and am using that as my default template. When I create the html file containing the WMV file, it still appears around 200x200 pixels, instead of 712x176.

I don't understand why it looks correct wile in Video Factory but not on the web or just a stand alone WMV in my media Player.

I guess the question is, why can't I create a 712x176 video and have it come out that way.

An example of what I am trying to get at (at least in size) is the BMWfilms.com website. If you look at the videos there, that is the proportions I am looking to achieve.

Thanks in advance.

Oh, now I understand ;).

However, I'm still trying to decipher the conundrum! Yeah? Perhaps others will "kick-in" here. It will be solvable, I'm sure. I think there are some "format" clashes going on, which will need our A-Team to help and gradually "untwist".

I'm a newbie too. But have had a few VF scars to my credit. Ho-Hum!

Can you tell me if you have actually created a rendered DV-AVI file first? If you haven't just try renedering a "short" piece, called Clip2, which has the efect you are happy with. Put this Clip2 back onto the timeline, in a spare piece of space. Now view in Preview window. If this works, then try previewing this same DV-AVI file in WM Player. Okay?

Let's hear how you did.

Here ya go.

Grabbed a piece of timeline, went to Options>Preview in Player. By default it goes to AVI and it reports my video at 712x176x32. AVI is created and it is shown EXACTLY the way I want in Windows Media Player.

If I select WMV as the output, it reports my video as 176x144. Why? Why won't WMV format retain the 712x176 size?

Nope! No idea. I'm passing on this one.

Part of the problem is that VideoFactory doesn't let you modify the WMV templates. The size you get is based on the encoding bitrate you choose. I set up an identical project and rendered it to the 512K setting, and got a 320x240 video, with the image filling the central third of the screen vertically and lots of black above and below. You would have to use Vegas if you want to modify the output size with WMV.
