Lou,

The "preview to external monitor" function is NOT for
exporting your final creation. It's for "previewing" and
nothing more. When you want to record your creation to
tape, first render the final project in whatever format
your video device accepts (NTSC DV for 1394 bus, MPEG-1 for
analog capture, etc.), and use the Sonic Foundry "VIDEO
CAPTURE PROGRAM" to print-to-tape. Yes, the capture program
also exports. If you don't know where you installed this on
your system, you can download it at:

http://www.sonicfoundry.com/download/step2.asp?DID=259

This tool is specifically designed to export finished video
clips to VCR, DV camcorder, etc. Remember, "preview" means
just that. PREVIEW. Good luck, and I hope this info helps.

Hi,
Hi Nick,

Thanks for the good advice!...However...
I just install it and already I have problems.

I created a movie and opened it with Video Capture.
When I play the movie, everything is fine. When i transfer
it or Print to tape, I get no Audio.
When i looked at the menu "Audio" I see Sound Blaster Live
Listed but as soon as I turn on my DV Camera, the Sound
Blaster is Greyed out. Why?

Thanks in advance,
Lou

Lou,

I posted this response in your other thread, but I'm
putting a copy here too, just in case you miss it.

"The Sound Blaster is greyed out when you select "DV"
because the 1394 bus has no need for a sound card. Your
audio is now being delivered through the iLink (aka
Firewire), so the program releases the sound card, since
it's of no use. If you're getting no sound on your DV
camcorder when you print, make sure you're hitting the
button on the software that has the camcorder under the red
record not, not the one with the play arrow. The latter is
for preview checking, as the former is for the final
recording. Check these things out, and I'm sure everything
will work okay for you."

Best wishes,

NLA's response is technically correct, however,
VegasCapture, for FAT32 users, is hampered because it is
incapable of combining multiple avi's to output to DV. You
have to do them one at a time. This means that, if your
production, in avi form, exceeds 4-gig, you will have more
than one avi, and, hence, no way to use VegasCapture as a
seamless output vehicle. You could start and stop your
camcorder, but that will most likely not be seamless.
There are programs that can calculate/control the camcorde
delay, but I've not worked with them, and surmise that they
are not truly seamless, either.

Playback from the timeline has yielded acceptable results
for me, however, you will not have sound through the
Firewire. You will have to pick up sound through analog
RCA connectors. Additionally, my camcorder's firewire port
disables the analog sound inputs, so that I have to use the
camcorder as a video pass-through device, routing sound
directly from my sound card to the VHS recorder.

This works, and, to my eye, there is no quality loss.

You results will depend upon the ability of your equipment
to playback from the timeline.

Good luck, and here's hoping that SF will upgrade/update
Vegas"Capture" sooner rather than later to give us this
invaluable output capacity.
