What is the best way to get video out to a tv. I have firewire in my system and i have a mini dv camcorder. I would like to view out to a small tv set without using the camcorder. I do not have a mini dv deck. can i use the firewire port and some how connect it to the television with an adapter or do i need to get a break-out-box to connect digital to analog.

Your camera should have s-vhs and/or composite outputs with sound that plug directly into your tv. If you want to, you can put a vcr in line so you can record the output of your timeline to tape. Remember to use the "Print to DV Tape option to do this.

Some cameras also have the capability to accept video in through the jacks described above, convert it to digital and output it into your computer so you can capture analog signals.

If you don't want to use your camcorder, you can get stand-alone DV to analog converters, such as the fine Canopus ADVC-100.
