Outputting SD from HD source

Hi kids -

I just got a new camcorder (SR11) and am looking forward to using HD (AVCHD).

Problem is I don't have an HD TV (and wont for the near to not-so-near future) and a BD recorder for the PC and standalone player won't happen anytime either.

If I record in HD (1080i), can I drag that source to the timeline and render the project as standard SD in 16:9 for use on a standard DVD?

Your AVCHD format has a few quirks of its own that won't be addressed in these posts, which cover mostly HDV, most notably the Pixel Aspect Ratio (PAR) which is 1.33 for HDV, but I think most AVCHD formats use square (1:1) pixels.
