Padding for layer break

I wish to make a DVD with two titles (video files). Each file is about 2.5 GB, so they won't fit on a single layer DVD. When I try to burn to a dual layer DVD, DVDA 6 asks me to put a chapter marker somewhere between 43 seconds and 37 minutes 56 seconds into the second title. I would have thought DVDA would simply put the first title on the first layer and second title on the second layer, but not so.

Is there a minimum size for the data on the first layer? If so, what is the neatest way to pad the first layer to keep DVDA happy?

If you override Sony's default layer break choice, you run the risk of the disc being unplayable on machines that normally will play burned DL media.

ImgBurn is your friend. You can set the break about anywhere you want, and it will work. That being said, I no longer do burned DL because of inconsistencies between players.

There are specific rules for layer breaks. The above is relatively easy to understand.

Thanks for the replies. I found Dave's reference very helpful. In a nut-shell, the break needs to be somewhere between half the total data and half the maximum data.

Although my two files were approximately the same size, the second was slightly larger. It would appear that all I need to do is reverse the order of inserting the titles into the project (and tidy up the links).
