PAL DV25 to Sony YUV problem.

I just ran a quick test last night, Standard PAL DV project, rendered to PAL Sony YUV and tried to bring the resulting AVI into Vegas. Result, no video, only audio. Media properties reports no video stream yet avi plays in WMP but looks very bad on any motion, serious interlace like artifacts. This is on a fairly old install of 5.0b.
I have another machine (not here though) with a clean install of 5.0d on which I've tried converting a 50i CF DI to PAL YUV and I could load the resulting AVI into Vegas but it also looked pretty strange.
Just how should I be trying to render to this codec? I selected PAL DV and then under custom changed the codec to Sony YUV. Has anyone had any success with this with PAL footage or I'm I going about this the wrong way?
Bob.

Yes, I sometimes rendered PAL DV footage to Sony YUV just to test this codec. I did it similar way like you did (except the project properties which are set to PAL DV on my system, not Standard PAL which would be Upper Field First). I took "Render to New Track" to render.

Result looks fine in Vegas though I cannot playback the resulting file smooth on my system. The final Sony YUV file has a rate of 20 MB/sec (160 Mbit/sec) - six times more than DV! So it's clear it needs some PC power to playback smooth.
Except of this the file looks perfect. Very nice is if I made a colored title which would look awful rendered with DV also looks perfect rendered with Sony YUV. Though I can't see that much use in the end for this codec right now ...

OK,
sounds like you've got it to work OK, think I need to dig much deeper into what's going on with my system. Playback spped isn't an issue, on my 'other' system it playsback OK.

I know it did it successfully many weeks before but I can't remember which Vegas version this was. Maybe also 5.0b, not sure.

Today I tested it using Vegas 5.0d Build 194. Rendered and viewed on this system.

Right now I tried opening exactly same clip in Vegas 4.0d Build 205. Works too. Difference between opening in Vegas 5 or Vegas 4 is that different codecs are used for decoding (well - that's what I expected). Vegas 5 decodes the file using Sony YUV. Vegas 4 decodes using Microsoft YUV. At least this is what's reported in the MediaPool.

I wonder whether on your side is it an encoding or a decoding problem?

Not much joy here.
I'm trying this on Build 160.

Open PAL DV Project.
Put 10 secs of standard PAL DV footage on T/L
Render to new track, Template PAL DV, custom -> Video, change video format to Sony YUV Codec.
Result: Audio track only. RClick in media pool, Stream: Video 1 shows media offline.

AVIcodec utility reports much the same, Video VYVY = Unkown and video codec Unkown.

Would it be of any help if I would send you a single frame of my Sony YUV result (zipped) to you via e-mail? Maybe this way you can sort out if it is a encoding or a decoding problem.
