PAL mpeg 2 render

Problem:

Rendering to mpeg 2 SVCD PAL template.
The first 30 seconds or so pulsates, getting less and less as time goes on, so that after about 30 seconds its gone completely. I'm almost certain it does this in the PAL DVD template, but its barely noticable, maybe due to the increased resolution or bitrate. I so much wanted to try the Main Concept encoder, but now its another problem.

Anyone noticed this, PAL or NTSC???? I think I will post this as another issue.

....also try using CBR encoding rather than the VBR mode the standard SVCD template is set up for.

Tony,

Thanks for the info, I tried that and it has no effect, still pulsing for the first 30 sec or so. However, I have done some more testing, and the problem only occurs with VBR (CBR progressive appears to be OK), and only on clips that start with a transition or text/title first. If I select a loop region of footage with ovelayed text or transitions in it, it is OK at SVCD progressive template. So.. is this a bug in Vegas or the encoder. I tried setting the resample switch on the transition/text etc at the start of the clip but it had no effect. When should resample be used?? I'm not sure on when its good to set this??

I'm sure my previous testing was the same for interlaced encoding too, it would seem that VBR is the problem, which is a pity as I would like a smaller file size. With the VBR setting at a max of 2600, average at the default 23?? etc I get about 40 min to a CD.

Any thougts from anyone else, Main Concept?????
