pan crop size help

I use Movie Studio 8 and in the Pan Crop window I need some help with 2 Tabs.

I turn ON Lock Aspect Ratio and then Drag the Left Handel in and the Right size automaticly goes in as well.

So I turn the Lock Aspect Ratio OFF and turn ON Size About Center and drag the Left handel in and the Right handel goes in as well.

I see no diferance with the 2 Tabs. Am I missing what they do?

Locking aspect ratio has to do with how your height and width are locked together.

When you lock your aspect ratio, changing the width automatically changes the height and vice versa.

When it is unlocked, the two are sized independently.

OK I do get what you are telling me that Lock Aspect Ratio keeps everything Locked to make everything even at the same time.

But this is what I ment I turn ON Lock Aspect Ratio and move the Right Handel in and the Right side of the Frame goes in and so does the Left I get this. But as far as the Height goes the Height never comes down or in or anything so I do not know how it is keeping all of it Locked like you say?

And when I turn Lock Aspect Ratio OFF and move the Right handel in the left side still goes in so they are not working Indapandendly?

What are you trying to accomplish?

"Lock Aspect Ratio" means that changing the width will automatically change the height, and vice-versa. This keeps the overall shape of the rectangle the same, while changing its size. With Lock Aspect Ratio turned off, you can change the width without affecting the height, or change the height without affecting the width. This lets you change the shape of the rectangle -- skinny, tall, square, etc.

It sound like you have the "Size About Center" button engaged. (I don't recall the exact name of the button and I'm not at a computer with Vegas installed.) Anyway, this is another button near the Aspect Ratio button. With it turned on, when you adjust any edge the center of the rectangle stay put where it is, but the sides move in and out accordingly. Since you are changing the width of the rectangle, and the center is staying put, both sides will move in or out accordingly.

With the Size About Center button turned off, when you grab and drag an edge you should be moving that edge only, if you also have Lock Aspect turned off (I think). I wish I could try this out for you -- but I can't at this computer.

What I want to do is to move the Left Side of the Frame in but leave the Right side of the Frame as is.

I turn OFF the Size About Center Tab and turn OFF the Lock Aspect Ratio Tab.
Then I move the Left side of the frame in and the Right side of the frame moves in as well.

The Left and Right side of the Frame move in at the same time.

And I have the Size About Center Tab and the Lock Aspect Ratio Tab both turned OFF.

And my Project Properties is set to 720x480 NTSC?

It sounds to me like you're dragging the entire cropping frame rather than changing the size of it. Make sure your mouse pointer is on the line around the edge of the frame rather than *inside* the frame. It will be a two-headed arrow when it's on the line, and a four-headed arrow when it's inside the frame. You want the two-headed arrow.

I open the Pan Crop screen and on the far Left side in the middel is the handel to move the Left side of the Frame.

I put my mouse over it and it is a 2 Headed pointer like you say.
As I move it in the Left side of the Frame moves in and this is what I want.

But at the same time the Right side of the Frame moves in as well.

And I checked to see and yess the Aspect Ratio and Size About Center Tabs are both OFF the are not Pressed in???

OK it was some settings in the Pan Crop screen.
I tuned OFF Lock Aspect Ratio and I turned OFF Size About Center Tabs.
Then I put the Move Freely X Y Tab to were it looks like a Cross image.

Then under Sorce I set keep aspect ratio but I set Stratch To Fit I set this to NO.

Now it works.

But one thing the Tab Move Freely x y on the kleft under the Size About Center Tab.

It has 2 settings one looks like a Cross and the other looks like a 2 side pointer.
Witch setting does what?

Actually it has three settings. There's also an up/down pointer.

When it's all four points you can drag up/down as well as left/right. When it's left/right, you can only drag left/right and you can't move anything up/down. When it's up/down you can drag up/down but not left/right.
