Pan/Crop Tool for Track?

Ken-Theriot wrote on 12/3/2020, 5:51 PM

I had already choppied up and stretched a video to sync it to a soundtrack. It was only then that I realized I needed to adjust the panning/cropping of the video to fit it into a grid (doing one of those virtual choir things with like 70 videos). I finally figured out how to crop tops and sides of videos to make them fit into square grids. But that was using Event Pan/Crop. Unless I want to try to do it 12 times for the various slices that created new events/items on the track, I am hoping to find a way to apply pan/crop at the track level. I tried adding the FX called Crop. But that is super hard to understand, and it creates a massive version of the video with borders all the way out to the entire preview screen limits. What I need is the same thing that is used for Event pan/crop, but for the track. Does something like that exist? Thanks!

Can't track motion do that? If the button on the track isn't visible you can change that setting.

I don't know :-P. Part of the problem is that I don't know what don't know.

Try using the free Resolve 17 for this, It is much more easier to use and logical. This is a demonstration of the built in video collage effect, and it address's the problem you're talking about

Thanks. It does look amazing and would do some of these things much more intuitively. But it seems silly to drop another $300 on yet another program.

It's free

At least try track motion to see if it does what you need- it looks like this.

Oh! I didn't see there was a free version. Thanks!

Roger, I can certainly open Track Motion on the track control panel. But I don't know how to pan the video. Do I need to find what works on one (of the dozen or so) events on the track, and then create a key for every event? Just one key at the end? One at the beginning and end? Confused.

OK I did some more experimenting with the Crop Effect on the entire track and can definitely use that. I was trying to do it with a dozen videos all shrunk down and didn't realize quite how the tool worked. But when I used just one single video, I saw and am now enlightened :-).

👍

Keep experimenting... so many ways to do it here...
