Pan & Crop & transparency questions

1) I need to start with a full page diagram JPEG and crop to a small section, but not have that section centered on the screen. If my small cropped section is near a left or right edge, I can expand the crop off the image to move it. But I also need to offset the cropped image from inside parts of the full page. Any way to do this? (I need to position the cropped images so they're not on top of the lecturer in the video portion)

2) Is there a way to have variable transparency for an overlay? Again when I'm doing the pan&crop above, I'd like to start with some transparency and then smoothly go to opaque. The end transparency handles don't do the trick, and splitting the image doesn't give me smooth gradual transition.

Here are some ideas; hope this covers what you were asking!

1) To get your overlay JPEG to cover only part of the screen, go to pan/crop and drag the handles so that the "F" frame is bigger than the JPEG image. You'll see in the preview that this shrinks the size of the JPEG relative to the overall screen. You can then click and drag the "F" frame to position the JPEG where you want it.

Since you want to show only part of the JPEG, you may need to separately use pan/crop to capture just the part of the JPEG you need. Then capture that frame to a separate JPEG (or PNG) file, and use that separate image to do what I describe above.

2) One thing to try here: Do the split, but then cross-fade between the two clips, each of which would have different transparency levels. Probably not perfect, but might be close to what you're trying to do.
