Pan - getting lines on edges of subject with any movement

I'm using the pan mode to get closer on some wide angle shots and getting lines on all the edges of any subject that moves on my AVI renders. If the subject is still, it is fine, so it is only during movement. Is there a setting I am missing that corrects this problem, or is it just normal when video is magnified? I am a definite newbie, but enjoy learning as much as possible. Thanks!

Ken,

The "comb" effect is a natural consequence of interlaced video. Normally it provides a more or less desirable "motion blur" effect in your action video.

If you are taking stills from your video, the interlace comb effect is highly undesirable. For the purposes of capturing your stills, temporarily set your Vegas project from interlaced to progressive. And, in the "Advanced Properties" dialog, select the "Deinterlace method" as "Interpolate". That will eliminate the comb effect. Also, pick the highest Preview quality to make your stills better.

Make your still captures and then when you close your project, simply don't save the changes. Also, to make sure you get full sized stills, right-click on the Video Preview area and pick "Display at project size". There are more details on this procedure in the recent thread titled "Capturing stills" here in this forum.

Thanks Burton,

I thought it had something to do with the interlaced video, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something!

Thanks for the still tips too!
