Panorama pics in timeline

I had fun creating a panorama still shot (with a friend's camera and panorama maker 3.0) and throwing it in the timeline was easy,but...
what can I do to minimize the the black space above and below the frame. It appears like the old cinema movies.

use pan/crop - Ii did the following with a similar panorama-type shot. I used crop to zoom in on one side of the picture, and then panned across the whole thing. The effect was terrific.
