I have 7 pics each on its own 3D track [angled to form a large barrel] children of a parent 3D rotating the barrel as in a six shooter with a flash going off at each sharp turn
Surly you should be able to see all the 7 elements in the parent 3D track so you can do your layout otherwise we are working blind
That’s my point it would be great if we had a visual indication maybe a red square wher each track is in relation to each other in the parent track
It takes a while working blind and then continually tweaking till its in the right position some indication in 3d parent track will be hugely beneficial
you mean like squares in the 3d parent view so that you can see where the other planes are? That WOULD be helpful but I'm betting the parent doesn't even know what's going on in the child tracks, it just passes all data in real time.
to do something "similar", put a solid color below the lowest track in your set of 3d motion tracks (not a child, but a separate track). Then you can at least tell the difference between a black frame in one of the tracks from the black background!
xfx, What I do is use ONLY generated media solid color squares initially on ALL the actual child tracks (different color for each track). Then, when I get the locations and motion I want, I replace the colored squares with my photos using "add as new take".
Also, before I replace the generated media squares, I save off the veg as a "template" in my templates folder to be reused next time I need this type of motion. Since it is only generated media, the template veg stands alone nicely.
When using the template in a subsequent project, I insert it as a nested veg.
What you are suggesting makes logical sense I already use nested projects, makes complex sections easier to work and carry over to new projects that incorporate the same feel
I usually might work with a solid color and use it as a multiplied mask and drop my new pic under but your suggestion of “add as a new take” sounds better but couldn’t work this bit out….how do I do this bit? Will it just replace the solid gen media with a new clip or pic automatically?
Rory, right click a clip, drag it to the existing timeline solid color event, and release the right click. You will have a context menu. One of the choices is "add as a take". After you do this, if you right click on the media again you can select "takes" and get a list of all the takes for that event. You can change to any of the listed takes, delete takes, etc.
That said, my previous post may have implied more than I intended. While this technique lets you easily see your work in the preview window, you are still stuck with just the cube in the Parent 3d Motion window.
I think what would really be useful here is if Vegas displayed in the Parent 3d Motion window an outline of each of the child events, color coded to the color of the child track. Also, it needs to display a single line when the child event is exactly perpendicular to the view plane. Currently, in each child's Track Motion window, the event disappears when it is exacly perpendicular to the view plane (because it has zero thickness).
I've written this up and submitted it to SCS as a suggestion for improving Vegas.
This add as a take is very useful Jerry I see it also works with video clips that I have set for a time and added an fx so if I decide I want a different clip in place with the same fx then add as a take and BANG to same length AND fx applied with keys in effect
Rory, I agree. I have been using Vegas since version 5 I think. Every time I do a new project I learn of some new feature I wasn't aware of. Some, like "takes" are more awesome than others. Glad this one is working well for you.
