Parent/Child No Go :-(

Can't seem to get the Parent Track to move the Child layers below it in 3D
Proceedure:
1. Make four new tracks and drop in subject matter in tracks 2 to 4
2. Enable 3D Alpha in each and hit the Child/Parent Switch(es) so the arrows are pointing upward on tracks 2 to 4
For some reason Track 1's Parent/Child Arrow(s) are greyed out at this point! (?)
3. But I go ahead and enable 3D Alpha mode on Track 1 anyway but it doesn't effect the Child tracks under it - in other words it just acts as the other 3D tracks do and isn't a "Parent" at all.
4. Tried making a "trash track" above as I remember something about that in another context but that didn't help either.

1. Make

The parent / child buttons for Track 1 will always be grayed out -- since it's the top track, it can't be a child. Therefore, it is a parent by default (once you've given it a child, that is).

As for the 3D issue, which composting button on Track 1 did you change to 3D source alpha? There's its regular button (on the right) that controls its own compositing mode, and then there is also its parent compositing mode button on the left, which only appears once you've given it a child (or more).

Also, when you want to move the entire "family" in 3D space, you have to use the Parent Track Motion (also on the left), rather than the parent track's individual track motion.

This has frustrated me, too, when I've forgotten to enable the right compositing modes, but the system does make sense, I think.
