Partial frame stills?

I'm sure this is easy to do but I'm still new to Vegas and need someone to point me in the right direction.

I'm making some title pages where I'm going to have a background image under some text and a couple of pictures. I could composite everything today into a single image with an image editing program but I'd rather be able to apply some effects to the foreground items so that they can come in separately.

How do I add pictures that are less than full screen?

I've been able to display only a portion of a frame using the Event Pan/Crop but I can't figure out how to move it to the point I want. I move the "window" I'm looking through but it changes what I'm seeing in the window. (Did that make sense?)

The result I want is to put the pictures of two people who are being introduced, one on the left and one on the right of the frame. Text under each picture will identify the person. This title will be introducing a sparring match between the two people.

I'll also want to find interesting ways of moving the contestant's pictures into the frame but I need to get them up there first. :)

Thanks...

You want to put the pictures on separate tracks, probably the titles will be a separate track as well and then use the track motion tool to do what you want. You access track motion in the track header of the video tracks, as oppossed to the individual video events.

Actually when working with stills it may be better to use event pan/crop as this work on the image at native resolution. Only an issue if you plan on zooming in on the image.

LarryTN,
Try the tutorials in the Videoguys newsletters. Issue 2 & 3 have to do with track motion and PIPs. Track motion is the way to go. Should give you a leg up. Here is the link: http://thetroxels.com/tts/
Hope this helps.

Thanks again for the help. I read the articles on track motion and put together this little test of concept. It's 924KB if anyone would like to take a look. (The file is a Windows Media Video version 9 file) The technique was very easy to apply after just a little bit of experimentation.

I'll use the same technique to bring in the head shot of the other contestant on the right side of the frame. Titles at the bottom will announce the match and the names.

The overall project is a DVD of a group of 3 year olds in Taekwondo, one of whom is my son. I have a number of sparring matches which I want to present separately with introduction. The test above is working on the introduction for each match. The following is an earlier test of presentation format but this includes one entire match and is 81 seconds.

Last is a test I did looking at ways to make the DVD Menu background video. I'm planning on splitting this where the iris transition is now (that will be removed) with the portion before running prior to the menu's appearance and the portion after repeating. I've since been experimenting with slowing down the sparring clips that will be under the menu and I like that effect. I'll also combine more, shorter clips from a number of different sparring matches and will extend it to match the length of the music.

Comments welcome. Thanks again for the help!
