Partial Mute Tool (similar to Sonar 4)

At the request of user PipelineAudio, I created a Vegas script to automate muting a portion of an audio clip. This is conceptually similar to the new Sonar 4 partial clip muting tool, but is implemented using the volume or mute envelope.

To use the script, make a time selection for the area that you want to mute, then select the track(s) that the desired clip is on (click on the track header to select the track), then run the Mute script.

The selection will be muted by creating a volume envelope (can be changed to use the mute envelope by editing the script). If the selection already has envelope points, they will be removed to unmute the selection.

You can edit the script to change the fade in/out times and curve types. You can also create multiple copies of the script if you want icons with different settings.

The free script can be obtained at:

thanks a TON!

IF you have a Mackie controller, flip on the motors once you are done messing with this tool and watch your customers' faces!

Is this like splitting the take, and just pull down the volume envelope?

The script does not split the event. Rather it adds (if one does not already exist) a track volume envelope and sets four points on the envelope to pull down the volume. Since envelope points will follow the events as you move them, this seemed to be a better approach than spliting the events.
