I've just done a moving "Smoke Sprite" using the Lanes and Curves controls:

It's gone 11pm here in London . . . . . Too much fun!

Mind you don't start a fire there!

:)

You're off to a great start! (:

Wait till you start using deflectors, blockers and forces!

A good exercise would be to get the smoke to twirl up the stalk going in front and behind it.

PI is one of my favorite apps!

I've been a User of pI for about 7 years. I don't see Deflectors as part of this?

That's interesting and good to know.
If there are no blockers, deflectors or forces that could be a deal breaker for some people.

Byron, get the demo and have a look?

When I loaded library I browsed to my Program files\particleillusion 3.0\emitters and loaded my homemade "text-logo.il3 and am not able to change ALL functionality like use my own text.

Also where is the default library that the OFX version is installed to? It seems that ALL the functionality isn't available in the OFX install.

I have a question,
When i try to use PI on the timeline, most times its appears too small (about a quarter size of screen). It may be a basic silly question, but it seems using the Size parameter does not make the particle effect large enough to say fill a 1080 display. Is it a case of using PanCrop to resize?

In the old days I would purchase this softare at the drop of a hat but now with the recession/depression I have to wait to win the lottery. But if I added up all the lottery tickets I purchased I could have purchased about 50 Particle Illusions.

Looking great.
I just can't see me using PI in any of the work I'm doing these days.
Trapcode Form, maybe but even then only for one job that I've done for free as it's about air and wind. I could have used Fume FX also as I was asked if I could add colored smoke swirling around dancers....I did mention this is a freebie didn't I?

Grazie, I've been using particleIllusion for many years too. There are icon/buttons on the top toolbar for: Deflector, Blocker and Force. I've rarely used them, but they do work.

Thanks Jerry,of course. Zoom works.

@Grazie
when the particle becomes active on the timeline then the blockers become active = red and blue squares next to particle arrow highlight for setting particle paths etc

blockers block parts of image/particle and deflectors deflect particles

Pretty cool things you can do with PI. I just have a hard time justifying the cost. I wish they wouldn't offer the free trials and just cut to the chase. So often you find yourself deeper in the red on an impulse buy.
FilmingPhotoGuy wrote on 6/18/2012, 11:07 PM
PI may seem to be pricey but when you use it together with your videos it's awesome. There are roughly 2800 editable emitters that once you learn to use make it worth the cost. I've been using PI for about 6 years and have definitly got my money's worth.

I was beta tester of the PI. GenArts. and tell you all that the usefulness of the program, it is not expensive, it is worth making that investment. I was very proud to have participated in the beta of the PI. It was my dream to be a plugin for sony vegas.
