Wow. Just ran across this in help. Would this actually work? Seems like a really cool thing to deal with my non paying client. I suppose the script samples are in the pdf?
It could be defeated by reading the IFO files using a program such as IFOEDIT.
This is more for a fun learning project. Listen to the "clues" and then type in the
code to see extras.
He paid me 10% so I was going to script individual episodes of the show 3-7 with different codes or have the cd play just three times and then require a code. Where can I find sample scripts?
It's not just a script, there's some menu work that goes along with it - in fact you can build the entire thing just using menus, it's just that scripting may allow you to re-use some of the menu stuff.
Further, you cannot do a "knock 3 times on the ceiling" act with a DVD. That would require the player or the DVD to maintain some sort of information across removal of the DVD from the player, and that functionality simply isn't present. Might be nice if a DVD could place cookies on a player, but, no one thought of that when the spec was written. So all the customer has to do to defeat your clever scheme is remove the DVD from the player and re-insert it.
Anyway, if I may - you're going to put more effort into this than you are likely to gain; in addition, you may end up just pissing them off. Why not be upfront with them - give them the scenes you were going to leave unlocked, then tell them that the rest of it will be made available upon complete payment. Or even better, they can view the result, in your studio/living room, if they want to walk out the door with the DVD then you need the remaining 90%.
