Paste Attributes bug?

Marc S wrote on 11/16/2009, 2:23 PM
I'm having lots of problems trying to paste effect attributes from one clip to another. Sometime it works, sometimes it's pastes nothing and other times it pastes the effect combinations from older clips earlier in the timeline.

I'm using Vegas 9.0c, Cineform HD 1920x1080. These problems as well as others will force me back to 8.0 on all future projects until Sony get's the program running properly. It's a shame, I've gotton used to the darker interface.

Hi Marc, I've never seen anything like that happen to me in 9c. only time I have problems is if stuff is grouped, it won't always copy either the right stuff or it won't paste to the right clip.

Are any of your clips grouped?

Same here. I've just completed a movie in 9c and not one paste attributes action worked.

Dave, I'm not sure about the grouping. I'm still working on it so I'll keep an eye for that. It is a multi-cam edit so there are takes although I'm not in Multi-cam mode when I'm having the problem.

This is one feature that never made sense to me, unless I'm not using it correctly. "Copy & Pastes" pastes everything including EventPan/crop keys as well as Event FX keys. Very rarely would you want to copy and paste everything. It would be nice if you had a choice of just FX's or EventPan crop.

LA, one way to separate-out an FX chain is to make a "Filter Package". This way I CAN apply an FX-Chain to another Event. I do this often.

I suppose it is where we draw the line as to what IS or constitutes an Event Attribute and what is not?

But do try the FX-Chain filter package approach.

Grazie,

Can an FX-Chain include specific plugin settings? I thought it could only be used to apply a combination of plugins at their default setting.

Thanks

Yes - I just threw on a package of mine and it has loadsa CC increments in it and so on.

I thought it could only be used to apply a combination of plugins at their default setting. - Can you imagine that? Only the default? SONY would be getting miserable gits like me saying: "Huh, fat lot of good that is?!? I still have to go in and change 'em?!? - What's the point?"

Try 'em! You'll like 'em!

Grazie

Thanks, I guess I'll read the manual :)

Grazie: A filter package, you mean like NewBlue?

Grazie wrote on 11/17/2009, 2:38 AM
LA: No. Like a "Filter Package" in SONY's own Plug-In Manager. You'll find it under "FX". You get an option when you "Save Plug-In Package" to save this as a Filter Package to the Filter Package Folder of Filter Packages.

However IF a NewBlueFX has been created and you ADD this tio another link in the FX chain then You could ALSO save this too - as a Filter Package!

If I had my way I would re-write the English on all of this. It all gets extremely confusing.

Thats a good work around, Grazie. However, lets say I have a project 720x576 PAL. I now want to make a 1280x720 HD project of the same project. The Aspect Ratio will all be sized wrongly, so now I have to go to each key in every event and select Event Pan/Crop,right click then select "Match Output Aspect". If I "Select Events to End" then and paste I will loose ALL FX and Event Pan Crop settings.

Ok, I get it now... thanks Grazie, very helpful.

Here's a step by step on saving as a filter package:

1. Apply your effects to a video clip and make your effect adjustments.
2. Now click on the "plug in chain" button (located on the right top corner of the Video Event FX box.
3. Double click on the "Filter Packages" folder to open.
4. Click on "Save As" and give it a name.

You now can apply that filter package and it will have all of the effects with the tweaked settings.

See! - I said you'll like it!

Now the NEXT thing is that after you have built a store house, full of juicy FXs, you can ALSO use these as ready-to-go taste testers just to "see" if it will work with a certain Event. And the other thing you COULD have a ready to go Colour Correction fx that you have tried and tested for a particular scenario. Too much Tungsten? Too much Neon? Wrongly set White Balance? I've got these I created going back over 5 years now and they still EITHER can be used immediately OR if they need some slender tweaking then that's a simple job - done! - What you will discover is that if you drag one of your packages onto an already FX-ed Event, the newly dragged FX will supplant what was there. It isn;t "added", it becomes the new defacto FX.

I'm telling you, your Filter Packages WILL become your newest best friend AND extend Vegas into becoming MORE available for your creativity for the future. At the last count I must have something like over 400 of these packages, and it's growing.

Grazie

Ok, now this makes even more sense. I was wondering what the plug-in manager was used for. Are you able to save your settings when you upgrade to a new version of Vegas? Thanks

I've got ones going back at least 3 years.
