you may be confusing a patch with an upgrade

I believe you need to upgrade to version 8 - in which case Sony will want a fee - they may give you a deal if you investigate - they do that a lot

patches apply to the particular generation you have - so you would only want all the version 6 patches.

I bought VMS 6 and two days later, VMS8 came out. I contacted Sony Sales, asking for a 'deal' since I bought their software only very recently before the upgrade. Which they refused, stating: 'This kind of policy only applies to Vegas full, not VMS'.
I can understand this, because I bought VMS6 for a bargainprice at Amazon (30 euros, postage included), which was a 'deal' in itself!

In VMS8, there's only some more templates, and some editing details that are different, compared to VMS. Nothing to worry about, if you ask me, unless of course, you're running Vista...

That's odd, because I ordered VMS7 from Amazon last year, received VMS6, Sony gave me the upgrade and Amazon apologised and refunded me 15% of the purchase price as well. I might have been lucky because this happened within Sony's time limit for free upgrades, you might have been pushing it a bit trying to get a freebie out of them for an upgrade from 6 to 8.

I thought the order was VMS6 -Vegas 7 (=full) - VMS8. Imho VMS7 does not exist.
When I ordered VMS6, it was still on the Sony creative Software. By the time of Amazon's delevery, VMS8 was being advertised there. I requested Sony Sales dept for a free upgrade, and they refused, stating that such policy only applies to Vegas Full.
By the way, Amazon.co.uk is still selling VMS6, NOT VMS8.

There is a Vegas Movie Studio Platium Edition version 7. I don't recall ever seeing a standard version 7.
