I know this isn't a specific Vegas issue but you guys have always had good suggestions for making things run smoothly.
I use primarily Sony products Vegas 5, Soundforge 5, CDA and DVDA. My pc is used almost exclusively for audio and some video production. A couple of months ago I built a new PC and upgraded to XP pro from 98se. Every since then I have experienced continual lock ups during my a/v work. I can't even seem to record a tape without locking up. Often, if I walk away for ten minutes it will be locked up when I return. I cannot find any conflicts. I defrag regularly and run window washer and adaware to keep internet files under control.
I have to believe there is some tweeking that I can do to prevent this problem but I'm lost at this point.
Also, the Sony products will not store the setting for my default sound card. Almost every time I open any of the Sony apps I have to go to preferences and set the audio to my card. I thought this might be an Edirol card issue but I never have to do this with Sonar, which I use primarily for midi sequencing.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
My system is...
ASUS K8V mobo
Athlon 64 3400+ processor
1.5gig SDRAM
2 180 gig SATA drives - one for A/V data only
ATI 9800 Pro All-in-wonder video card with 64mb ram
Edirol UA1000 USB audio card
I did not upgrade my monitor ( 21" Viewsonic P815) and keyboard - Could this be an issue?
