PC Uptime & Hybrid Boot? this i found interesting,

Former user wrote on 3/11/2022, 5:08 PM

@Dexcon @RogerS @TheRhino I was just doing some test renders, partly for myself after Build 532 update & after reading @mhammann57 post about a new PC build & not being able to afford a good GPU, I almost always use AVC NVENC, because I know it's the fastest & I know the other takes longer,

Soo i was rendering 2.51mins of 4k clips to see the difference using & not using the GPU option, (I didn't turn off the GPU in Vegas)

AVC Mainconcept 3.32mins
AVC NVENC 1.35mins
HEVC QSV 3.01mins
HEVC NVENC 2.09mins

But in Taskmanager my 'Uptime' says 3days 8hrs!.. I turned the PC on this morning 🤷‍♂️🤔🤯 ?

So I Googled it & it seems even when you turn off your PC it's not completely off ,

Hybrid Boot since Windows 8 depending on settings ?

I changed the Windows settings so it fully powers off. I don't mind waiting for it to boot.

Thanks for the info @Former user . I vaguely recall something about Fast Start in Windows 10 from years ago but never activated it to my knowledge. I checked the Google Machine (not to be confused with Mr Peabody's WABAC Machine) and it seems that Fast Start is only activated if Power Options has Hibernate activated. But if Fast Start is activated, I guess it does make sense that somethings humming away on the computer to enable a fast start. Cheers.

@Dexcon @RogerS Hmm, i just had another look at my settings, I'm on Windows 10 Pro so i don't know if that makes any difference, I have a few options, 7 to choose from, all can have their own individual settings but the main 2 are AMD Ryzen High Performance or AMD Ryzen Balanced, everything is set to 'Never' turn off because i was uploading a video to YT, it was taking a while so i left it overnight, & when i came down in the morning it hadn't uploaded because the bloody PC had decided to take a nap half way through 🥱😴😒😂, i used to have it on High Performance trying to get faster render speeds but found that it was a bit unpredictable generally, i don't know if the 'High Performance' was the issue but i wasn't getting noticeable faster render speeds & setting it back to Balanced (recommended) seemed to settle things out,

So i'm not going to fiddle with it, everything seems to be fairly stable, i can have this machine on for 24-36hrs no prob without it slowing or overheating, it was just interesting that 'Off' isn't always 'Off' 🤷‍♂️😂😂

I might experiment to see what the difference is in boot up times but for now Fast Start-Up is staying on,

"When Fast Startup is enabled, your computer doesn’t perform a regular shut down. Since applying new system updates often requires a shutdown, you may not be able to apply updates and turn your computer off. Restart is unaffected, though, so it still performs a full cold shutdown and restart of your system. If a shutdown doesn’t apply your updates, a restart still will."

You don't have a screen like this? I don't think it's processor dependent.

Fast Startup has been discussed many times on the forums I visit ever since Win 10 came out years ago.

My understanding is it saves some info for a quick start but it does switch your machine off. So switching off at the wall doesn't affect it.

@Former user I suspect Fast Startup is something different to what you've discovered.

Checking my settings I find I have Fast Startup off.

@RogerS Yes i have that screen

@EricLNZ Dunno, i read quite a bit about Up-Time, - Sleep, Hibernate etc & things related to Fast-start kept getting mentioned so i looked at Fast-Start,

This is where that quote i mentioned above came from https://www.howtogeek.com/243901/the-pros-and-cons-of-windows-10s-fast-startup-mode/
