PCI IDE Controller Cards

For extra storage space, I added 2 more hard drives, each connected to a Maxtor ATA-133 IDE controller card plugged into an extra PCI slot on my motherboard. While I can capture, edit my project, render the final version to these drives, and preview the final version with the capture software on my monitor, VF will NOT preview the same file on the Cam, or Print to the Cam, but just gives me a blue screen. I found that my final rendered file MUST be on a drive plugged directly into the IDE1 or IDE2 bus on the motherboard itself. VF PPT or "preview on device" does NOT like to pull from a hard drive connected to a PCI-IDE expansion card. My DVD burner doesn't like being connected to it either. My extra hard drives don't seem to care, though. Is this common knowledge for all you VF experts? I'm running a Tyan 2466 motherboard with dual AMD 1900+ processors.

From the sounds of it, there is something wrong with the PCI Controller you have just installed. The hard drives as well as your DVD drive _should_ be able to reside off this card without any problems. Have you checked with the manufacturer of this card for any Driver updates? Go into Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information and click on the Hardware Folder, then on Sharing. This will display any items that may be sharing IRQ's. If there are multiple items sharing this IRQ, that could also be a answer to your issue. Other suggestions would be to change the PCI slot this device is installed in or if you have no more that are free, swap it with another device. While you are at it, check every other device you have against the drivers' their manufacturer offers on their website. Issues due arise from multiple items having flaky drivers not agreeing with each other.

Ok. You were right. I take back those things I said. Some of them anyway.(;^D) I did two things. (1) I moved the Maxtor ATA 133 IDE controller card to the first, or top, PCI slot, just beneath the AGP Video Card. That changed the IRQ it resided on. The previous position had it sharing an IRQ with another device, although the other dignostic tools within Windows stated "Device is working properly." (2) I downloaded and installed the latest driver for Win XP from the Maxtor website. Now VF will Preview on Device and Print to Tape with no adverse effects. Thanks for the suggestion.
