PD-150 How To Auto White Balance..

I have the Sony PD-150, I keep hearing in the forums of people
setting the camera for Auto White Balance and Manual Iris?

How is this done? I thought that you can only go all Manual or all
Auto, except for focus? I would like to experiment with having
the camera on manual iris and auto white balance.

I have the 170 but I imagine the controls are close.....

I don't recall doing what you ask, but off the top of the old head here....I believe this can be done by moving your Auto/Lock switch to the middle position (manual mode) and go into the white balance menu. There you find the auto/manual and presets. Scrolling through, the auto should be the setting where you see no graphic. Then you should be able to adjust the iris manually while it is auto wb'ing. I'll pull my camera out later and double check this.....

PS Is there a particular reason you want to do this? If you are going manual you may want to set the wb manually with a white card and then if the situation changes (indoor to out etc) set it again or use a preset even.

Hope this helps...

Correct---when set on fully automatic---switch up---the camera does everything automatically (unless of course you have the focus set on manual) whitebalance shutter speed, aperature etc. When you put the switch in the middle position, you can pretty much manipulate everyting. You can set the white balance manually or you can pick a preset. The control for the aperture is on the left side of the camera---you engage it and then turn the wheel to set your fstop.

Another rule of thumb - if the parameter is in your viewfinder, then it's manually controlled.
