Pent 4 cpu usage oddities and no the denormal prob. Can you reproduce?

I am seeing very high cpu usage running win2k with only a few video and audio files running. (task manager)
I have seen almost 100% at time. Then an odd one is I will load an automation and usage will actually go down?
Odd. When it reaches 100% it does not clip my audio?
Is there a known issue with this and pent 4s?
can anyone reproduce this?
When I run one video(dv clip) with one audio track I get 27% cpu usage. Seems abit high. Then move the track view bar and it reaches 60%.
Do others see this result?
Everything seems to be running great. Just usage seems abit off.
win2k
asus p4pe
2.5 ghz cpu
1gig O ram
Matrox 450 dual head
matrox drives 7200
Echo gina 24
network card
midisport usb

Any others see this or know if I am seeing ghosts?LOL
Thanx

Without wanting to sound difficult, is this just an observation, or is this actually causing you a problem with stuttering / drop outs / etc?

I wouldn't worry about what CPU meters tell you until you can actually see/hear problems. They can sometimes cause you to want to believe there's a problem when there isn't.

Actually there is no probs, but peaking at 100% is kinda a scary thing to have to wait and see if it causes probs.
Can you reproduce this or is it just on my end? Curious. Like I say it doesn't seem to be causing probs, but as a beta tester for other companies, this is an odd thing to see.
What do you get with one track of video and audio?
Let me know thanx.

P.s. thanx for the reply. ; )

Just tried this on a current project that has 2 video tracks and 2 audio tracks.

At points where there is only 1 video and 1 audio track running (w/ no effects) I have CPU usage that varies between 25% and 40%, but is mostly in the 34% area. Jumps to 50% when doing fades. This is on a 2.4GHz PIV w/ 512MB RAM on a P4PE w/ 2 monitors. I jump to 96% utilization when using effects on the video.

I think Vegas tends to take the CPU hit by dropping the frame rate of the video rather than causing audio drop outs.

I'm not bothered by these results - I can accomplish what I need to. Hopefully this is useful to you.

All the best,

Mark

Thanx Mark for the results. I can confirm that here as well.
I am used to working on a dual 1gig cpu setup so I have never seen this on the cpu meter before.Usually the dual on this would report 30%-50% on the hardest hits. Never even on a 27 track session has it reached past 60%
