I have read a lot of opinions about Vegas Pro 12 in this forum and I have also learned that everyone is not going to be completely satisfied with any version of pro software that Sony releases..
I had many issues with version 12 because I didn't know the capabilities and or limitations of the software and my workstation.. But once I started to realize that you have to allow the possibilities or lack there of come through, and make the best of them.
I don't have an expensively equipped studio so I won't be able to avoid some of the problems that are inherent with an inferior system.. However, what I am able to accomplish with Pro 12 is astonishing to me, considering that I am a video editor and not a computer scientist.
A true professional will make this or any version work as needed as long as you have the creative desire.
In fact, some of the common issues I had with Pro 12 actually made me a better (Editor) and also inspired me to have the best computer that I can afford
Now, I'm a little more knowledgeable about more up to date computers and what they can and can not do no matter how much money you spend.
I wish some people would ease up on this software and instead of bashing it, help other users get to a place where they are getting what they need from it.
It's not perfect but you will eventually find a "Sweet Spot" with this software as long as you have the technical basics in place.
I'm in no rush to upgrade to Pro 13 just yet because my basic editing needs are still the same.
Editing is truly an artistic endeavor to say the least.

If you bought a car and it kept randomly stalling on the freeway, you'd tend to get tired of that.
Yes, Vegas works great, and faster than many others I've tried. But, 12 and 13 RANDOMLY crash without reason where as 11 didn't.

I'm working AROUND any shortcomings I find, and CTRL-S has developed into a minutely twitch. And that helps a lot.

Bought a brand new over spec system last year, and Vegas is the ONLY software I run that crashes. Sometimes, while I am doing absolutely NOTHING but staring at the screen thinking. Weird. Love hate thing here.

And then there are those for whom Vegas, 4 through 12 skipping every other upgrade in my case, has only crashed, when presented with corrupt files. I am now seeking out wood to rap upon;-) I'm sure that there are other software that are more tolerant of individual computer environments than Vegas. I have not been nearly as diligent as I might have been about keeping my i5/8 gb computer crap free, yet Vegas still chugs along. However, I rarely do highly complex videos with beau coups fx and such as others do. Maybe that is why I have been fortunate.

"Love Hate Thing" surely applies here..
I once had a 1969 Chevy coup with a 350 small block in it that I bought off a dying old man that had it since it was new.. It had it's share of rust and the interior was nothing to brag about.. But the old dude told me that it would run forever if I learned how to drive it the way it wanted to be driven.
I had a hard time getting girls to sit in this car and sometimes when they saw me pull up to their house they wouldn't answer the door. That car only broke down when I tried to race it down the street or something crazy like do "doughnuts" in the middle of the street.
Whenever it broke down, I was able to fix it with a pair of pliers and a screwdriver.
Anyway, I eventually understood what the old man was trying to tell me. And once I stopped expecting this car to jump through rings of fire and leap over buses, it stopped breaking down so much.
When it was running I would get anywhere I wanted and on time as long as I took my time and let the car do it's own thing.

Many crashes are related to 3rd plug-ins and hardware. I did build my hardware around VP11 and GPU acceleration when it was introduced and I haven't experienced crashes ever since. However, I don't use 3rd plug-ins and try to make do with Vegas plugins. I love VP even more since GPU acceleration was introduced; finally I got Full/Best preview on an external monitor with HDV footage and now with 1080 60p.

I have yet to enjoy the pleasures of GPU acceleration.. However I do get by without it..
I would like to figure out how to "Tweak" my system so that I can.. But for now, Hollywood is not banging at my door with any rush orders.
I just use two monitor setup in which the one on the right is where I work with all my tools and such.
Like you, I have very minimal usage of third party "Pluggys".
I'm sort of happy I guess.

I've never used Vegas in ways it wasn't designed. But, I chose it over premiere and others because it worked great and fast. Everything has its faults though.
I hear other products have their stability issues as well.

We live in the day of LIVE BETAs instead of "finished" products. It gets things faster to market, and makes companies more money with constant updates. Becoming desensitized and accepeting the fails is different from enjoying it.

They have not repaired everything in 12, yet are releasing 13. I wish they would take a few years, fix ALL the bugs in the previous version, then when there are REALLY new things added, release a new purchase version. Maybe 3 years apart.

LOL.. No I don't work for SCS.. I wouldn't even get an interview with only the 7th grade education that I have.
But that should speak volumes for this software.. I have no real reason to know how to even use this software, not to mention a computer.
I just want to know how to do this sort of thing and there is so much "How To" info out there that you can't miss.
I spend a lot of time learning and I try not to put a lot of energy in the negatives.
Although sometimes I can't help it.
If it were not for the "Spell Check" feature on my computer you probably wouldn't be able to read my posts.. Because I can't spell that well.. But I love working with video production especially Post-Production.

By the way, I was educated in the Public School System.
That real quality over the top academics.
