Phantom Memory? How to get rid of?

After completing a video project and deleting the video capture clips and the finished product from my hard drive, I find that there is 15-20 Gb of hard drive space not available for a week or so. I have defragged the hard drive and optimized it but the additional memory doesn't return for a while. How do I get the computer to restore all of the hard drive space immediately.

Defragging is worthless, and even if it wasn't, it wouldn't help in this case anyway. Have you emptied your recycle bin?

Are you using Norton? As I recall, it's a 2-step process (empty Recycle bin & empty Norton protected files) to completely empty the Recycle bin and get the space back.

Yes I am using Norton and thanks for the information. It is a two step and I have got my memory back.
