Photo Stills Resizing

I'm new to Vegas 6, having recently converted from Premier Pro. I'm having problems with the way Vegas is handling still photos.

Project is HDV 1440x1080, 1.33 aspect ratio. If I insert a still on the timeline that is either greater than the width or height Vegas seems to resize the photo to fit the project dimensions.

I would rather have a 3072x2304 still in it's full size that I can move and frame rather than a still that Vegas has resized down and no longer fills the 1440x1080 frame.

I've searched the manual and a little bit here on the forum. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I've used the Pan\Crop feature but to get the photo to fill the frame I need to turn off maintain aspect ratio which then stretches the pixels, e.g. people become fatter.

Thanks,
Mark.

Open Pan/Crop, right-click the "F" window, and choose "Match Output Aspect". Now resize as needed.

Well, that helped me in some respects but didn't really address my real question. Let me state it another way ...

Is there a way within Vegas to resize a photo? Either by reducing or enlarging the original? If I have a 1600 x 1200 still and want it to fill the HDV frame ( for square pixels that would be 1920 x 1080) is there a way to enlarge the photo without resorting to using a photo editor?

Thanks.

Pan/Crop will also let you zoom in or out on the photo and will use the full resolution of the photo. Just resize the "F" window as needed.

After you drop the photo on the timeline, open Pan/Crop and go to the Width parameter and notice that it defaults to the still image's width (3072). Type the project width (1440) in that box and you will get a full resolution viewport into the picture that you can move around as you see fit. If it shows a little black around the edges, use Match Output Aspect as jetdv suggested to alter the aspect. This should give you what you originally want.

JR,

Bingo! That hits the nail on the head. Big thanks!
