Photoshop FilterFactory plugins anybody?

Has anybody tried Photoshop's FilterFactory plugins for creating effects? Looks like they are easy to create (without any programming) and a lot of free plugins created for FilterFactory available on the net... i was wondering if that could be the first step in the upcoming Plugin Adapter for Vegas.

Hi Satish-

Personally, I have never had much use for Filter Factory, just not my bag. Migh be good for testing though since they are free.

Are you making a plug that will accept any 8bf file?

Any 8bf file will be possible, but the problem is that 8bf files are mostly for single image use only - cannot be keyframmed. With FilterFactory plugins, the parameters can be keyframmed by the PluginAdapter... so i am thinking of a first phase only supporting FilterFactory plugins, then AE keyframmable plugins.

Hey Satish,
Good to hear that you are still working on the convertor :) Sorry, I don't have any experience in using FilterFactory itself (ie making my own plugins), but have used Harry's filters(Videorave) which is a freeware filter package that I am fairly sure was made using Filterfactory. These plugins are ok but probably won't extend the range of Vegas's abilities too much unless they are keyframeable. Whereas more complex 8bf filters such as Toadies(free), Amphisoft(mostly free) and commercial offerings such as KPT5(radwarp, blurr and smoothie rock hard on video) and the Prickly Pear range look so cool on video that they don't need to be keyframed(although they would be stunning if that was possible). Possibly more users are interested in just being able to use their favourite 8bf(photoshop) plugins in a non keyframable way than lower grade plugins that are keyframeable (ie the hordes out there made with Filterfactory). Hell...I would be happy with anything Satish!!!

What do others think?

One AVI editor that uses Photoshop/FF plugins is AviEdit at http://www.am-softhome.com
I think it only works with Photoshop 4 plugins, though, but I've done some really nice effects with the program. Takes a little getting used to.
As far as Filter Factory, I think its potential is underutilized. Most of the stuff produced is pretty cheesy, lots of psychedelic colors, etc.

That's true, FilterFactory is very underutilised... though there are a few very good ones also among the list. Primarily i thought i would pick those that are very good and add along with the distribution, leaving the rest to the vegas users to create.

AVIEdit supporting photoshop .8bfs is great. :)

I'm not a fan of filterfactory stuff at all. I use LOTS of pshop plugs, but would much rather see alienskin or something along those lines. Alienskin already works under AE anyway.
