Picture glitches at bottom of frame on MOV files

ChrisDalek wrote on 10/24/2024, 4:34 AM

Using Vegas 21.0 (build 315) and randomly getting short glitches like these while working with certain MOV files, always at the bottom of frame. The files themselves don't have these problems, but if I render the video while these glitches are displaying they'll appear on the render. Also the glitches seem to be inconsistent; they'll appear on the above frames for a short time, then if I return to that exact frame 5 minutes later it'll show no glitch at all, or the glitch will have moved to elsewhere in the video.

Any ideas?

Try the legacy AVC or HEVC decoder in options/ preferences/ file io. Otherwise go back to build 208 of 21 which didn't have such problems (note that projects created in 21.315 won't open in 208).

Thanks for this; AVC decoder was already on, have added HEVC decoder but still getting the problem (though on first appearance not as badly). If the project won't open in 208 then that's a non-starter unfortunately as it's far too long to start over now - might try converting the MOVs to MP4?

If you have an older version of VEGAS around (20? 19), copy and paste the timeline between the two and then uninstall 21.315 and install 21.208.

For AVC/HEVC it depends on what your media is- do you know?

MOV and MP4 go to the same decoder so no difference. You could try using a program like ShutterEncoder to change them to ProRes and then replace the media in VEGAS to complete this project. For future projects try working in 21.208.

Just in case anyone happens across this thread with the same problem, I fixed it by going to Options > Preferences > Video and turning off GPU acceleration of video processing.

NVidia GeForce RTX 4060

FWIW, 22 is working well with my 4060 (as does 22.208) and green frames and other glitches are gone.
