"Pinnacle DV/AV could not be opened".

Hi

I used to use Pinnacle Studio to do my video capture and editing but have recently bought Sony Vegas Studio 9 Platinum. When I try to capture video from my Canon MV500i the program tells me that "The device 'Pinnacle DV/AV Capture' could not be opened".

I have my original Pinnacle DV/AV card installed in the PC and it still works with Pinnacle Studio.

I am running the program on a PC with a Dual core processor (1.6GHz) with 1Gig RAM under XP (SP3).

Should be grateful if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can get Vegas to recognise my DV/AV card.

Cheers.

John.

You probably can't. The Pinnacle card is proprietary and purposely made to work with only the Pinnacle software.

Solution: continue capturing in Pinnacle, and edit in Vegas.

Does your PC have a Firewire card/port? If so, connect your cam directly to the PC and capture your video via the VidCap application that comes with VMS.

Many thanks, looks like I will have to stick to Pinnacle Studio for capturing.
I thought that Vegas would just identify the port as a standard 1394 port.

Thanks again.

Cheers.

Vegas can identify and use standard 1394 ports.

The Pinnacle device is far from standard.
