Pinnacle DV500 DVD compatibility

I'd like to know if the video capture Pinnacle DV500 DVD is compatible with Vegas Video. If the answer is "yes", I'd also like to know:
1. If it's possible to send the image to an external video monitor.
2. If I can play the audio tracks from audio outputs that are not in the DV500 Break-Out box. What I mean is that I want to playback audio tracks from an audio card like Gina 24 or Delta 1010, for example, instead of the DV500 DVD audio outputs.
3. If Vegas Video will be reliable (crash free) working with Pinnacle DV500 DVD.

I can't answer your specific questions but I hope this info will be somewhat helpful. I appologize for the long post.

I have a DV500 Plus on my work system (PIII-600mhz, W2KPro, 524Ram, 120GB Storage) that I use to capture and edit video taken from an old 3/4" JVC player via s-video. For previewing I use a NTSC standard 13" JVC Monitor connected to the DV500 box via s-video. I don't use the 1394 port at all (yet). The final video is used for programs, promos and such for local access cable stations in the Southern California area.

According to the Pinnacle support site (and my experience), ONLY Adobe Premiere (which is bundled with the the DV500 cards) or Pinnacle's editing software can use the DV500 realtime functions.

On the positive side: By using the Pinnacle Codec, the footage that is edited in VV3 will still work in realtime in Premiere. While I'm working on a project I'll switch between the two programs; Major Editing in Vegas, previewing in Premiere. Both programs work well with the Pinnacle Codec. I've worked with Premiere for years but I prefer to work in VV3.

I don't use the 1394 connection for my work so I can't comment on using an external monitor from the DV500 while working in VV3. On the plus side though, VV3 DOES recognize the DV500 1394 connection in the Preferences:Video Device dialog and indicates "This device supports recompression, Hot pluggable device" which, I hope, means that it will work when I get a 1394 camera or tape player.

A note about realtime effects:

Premiere uses a Pinnacle plugin called 'Instant Video RT' which enables it to interact with the DV500 for realtime effects, capturing, outputing, scrubbing, previewing, etc. Please note that ONLY the Pinnacle and HollywoodFX plugins can use the card in realtime. All other plugins, including the built-in Premiere/After Effects plugins, have to be rendered. The pinnacle effects are useful but very basic (video adjustments, color correction, etc.) and HollywoodFX is just transitions, so IMO anyone who wants to do "special effects" in realtime won't benefit from the DV500 card. In my work environment realtime effects aren't a consideration and I'm satisfied with the product.

Hopes this helps a bit.

Thanks!!! And don't worry about the extension of the text... I think it was helpful for me!

And by the way... Have you ever tried to record audio to video with LIP SYNC usind your system (DV 500 and VV3)? I'd like to dub corporate English videos to Portuguese.
