Pinnacle Studio AV and vid factory 1

I just bought a copy of Studio av8 to capture my video tapes. I want import them into video factory. I have an Mpeg update that Sonic sent me. Questions I have are: will I have vhs quality to output when capturing at 640 x 480? Will Studio av8 capture as AVI files, since I understand these will give better quality? I ask cause I got a great price at Best Buy, but if I can't get a decent output I may want to get a better capture card. Cark I have captured with is ATI Rage pro from about 99 or 2000 and it is inadequate.

Thanks for any help

Studio AV comes with the DC10+ capture card that uses a hardware MJPEG codec (AVI format). I have one of these cards and the quality is outstanding. I can’t tell the difference between my original VHS-C camcorder files and my output movie back to VHS. Some people have experienced problems with Audio/Video sync with this card but I never did. It always performed flawlessly for me. You should get excellent quality using this card.

The only down side to this card is that you must use the Studio AV software to capture and print to tape because the card is proprietary and can’t be used by any other software. Luckily the AVI files it captures can be used with any editing program.

The Studio software is very buggy but I don’t think VideoFactory will have any problem using the AVI files it produces. Just capture with Studio AV and edit with VideoFactory, then print the rendered AVI files back to tape with Studio AV or upgrade to Screenblast Movie Studio 3.0 for $30 and make DVD’s.
