Pioneer DVR-108?

Anyone here have experience with the DVR-108 burner? We're looking at some new drives to take on the road for the tours. Also looking at the Sony DWD18A except our supplier only has them in black, we'd like beige.
I'm not interested in looking at low-name/no name brands, Pioneer, Sony, Toshiba, etc are what we want. Although they all come out of the same or similar factories, on-the-road support is usually better with a bigger name.
Anyone?

Don't ave any experience with the 108 but do with the 107 and 105 and me and my guru buddy have hit them pretty hard without any problems so we are going to purchase new ones in the future.

I am looking for a dual layer to fly with. We've got lots of A3,4,5's around here, and they're great. The 03 finally turfed it on the last VASST tour. So, we'll take duallies with us for future use.

On this topic,
Anyone have any experience with the dual layer burners yet?

Biggest thing about the -08 burner is that it can burn dual-layer at 4X, something nobody else can do (yet). Since a dual-layer burn requires that both layers be burned completely, that means substantial time savings when compared to the typical 2.4X burn.

Even so, I don't think I'll be doing any dual-layer for a while, given that single-layer disks are so cheap and the process is so much faster.

I'm still waiting for the -R DL writers and discs to come out.

I've got a 106/A06, it's been a-ok. Pioneer's got an excellent reputation so I'd say you couldn't go far wrong with a 108.

the last couple of weeks, we have been using the Sony u18a drives, so far, everyone's gives them a thumbs up. Have Sonic use, (dvdit5, reel), and Nero6, not enought time for meaningful dual layer testing, yet.

Yup, we ended up buying 4 of the new Sony U18a's, our supplier found them in beige in another warehouse. Got 2 today, so we'll load the external cases tomorrow. Thanks for the input, gang!
