Please be more specific with your problems, I aslo own a Pioneer DVRA06 and love it to bits.
please include OS + service pack / System configuration etc..

But my initial diagnosis would be you may have inserted the IDE cable the wrong way around and that is why it can not read the hardware connected.

Have you had any DVD player compatibility issues burning your discs at 4x as opposed to 2x.

I have read that we are better off burnibg at 2x to increase compatibility.

Nero has a scan disk utility that looks for bad areas on the disk. So far I have yet to find any bad areas from disks (all DVD-ROM/DVD+R so far) I've burned on my A06 at 4X. If there are no media errors then it seems like there shouldn't be any compatabilty difference.

Thanks for the manual.
I have a japanese version of DVR AO6J burner.
I installed the burner using the IDE port of the CD writer i removed.

I have actually used the AO6 successfully with one VCD created with myDVD and one DVD using DVDA....I also was able to watch one DVD movie from it......Strange is when i reboot my PC the next day......Windows explorer can not detect the hardware anymore. I went to device manager, i saw a yellow exclamation mark on the device, check the properties and it shows error 39......suggesting corrupted driver. I tried uninstall and add new hardware but again showing thesame error.

My OS is win XP home Ed without SPs..

Do i probably need to install SP? but what SP...i dont know. I read some issues about SP on previous threads that's why i ignored these SPs.

I maybe need a driver from pioneer....maybe someone can give me a link!!

Looks like the driver is corrupted.

when i install the CD burner back....make it the master and DVR AO6 as the slave. both are not recognized. Device manager was able to detect them but but says "windows not able to read, the driver might be corrupted or missing".

Can anybody give me a link....where i can get the driver for the burner drives? is it in microsoft site?
I have a recovery disk but wont like to use it because all my data will be erased and it will return back to the factory set up.

I maybe only needed the CD/DVD driver?

what is version 1.6 all about. i went thru it but it has a warning saying it will not restore back to it's previous firmware version....may u let me know what 1.6 does...i maybe not needing it.

AO6 users.....did u install the new firmware version as well?

The above information is the driver information that is shown on my PC through device manger for the DVR-A06, I currently have Windows XP Pro SP1 + more. In general these should be the same characteristics of your driver if running Windows XP Home Ed.

But if you say that the driver is possibly corrupted then its highly advisable to install Windows XP SP1 to rectify the driver issue without having to re-install Windows XP or bring it back to the state it was with the recovery disk.

Or perform a rollback for the drivers, or update driver through microsoft.

On the issues of SP with XP I have yet to encounter any of the mention problems in the previous threads.

But I'll sniff around pioneer japan to find the specifiation A06J and see any differences with A06D that I have.

i really appreciate your effort in helping me.
know what, i just found a way to restore it back.....using the system restore. i restored it at an earlier date.....then its back to normal again. yah the driver file seems to be corrupted.......i dont really know about this system restore before...i just accidentally browsed it....

yes, we have thesame driver specs.

What SP1 does by the way....do you think it's necessary for me? I only use my PC for internet, VV editing and playing VCDs and DVDs

i checked out the manual you had link....looks like AO6J and AO6D is exactly thesame. The only difference maybe are the softwares bundled with it.

I don't really know if the firmware update is required or not.....since it's now perfectly working...i maybe don't need to update the firmware anymore.

please do post here if you have troubles on the burner.

First of all firmware update is required because you'll get better media compatibility and maybe fix a few bugs that Pioneer found out after shipping the recorder. When you update the firmware you don't need to go back and downgrade, what's the use for such an action.
By the way, have you installed DVDXcopy? If you have this might be a reason for your drive not recognised as the software creates some communication layer conflict. One way around is to use utility ForceAspi.exe found everywhere in internet. Try it even if you haven't installed dvdxcopy. Try also unistalling Intel Aplication Accelerator as it creates some conflicts every now and then.
