Pirating effex encouraged ?

So I saw a posting about blurmocurve (or something like that) and I wasn't familiar with it so I did a search on youtube. Found a tutorial and one of the first things the "tutor" says is don't ask her where to download the effect, just find it, look for comments about whether there is a virus or not, and then take your chances. No mention of actually purchasing it or finding it legally. I hate that so called "tutors" are encouraging pirating even the effx for Vegas. And then they come here and wonder why it doesn't work. (I am not implying that the poster here who was asking about the effect has pirated it, I am just commenting on how people encourage that online) .

Okay, my rant is over.

That is so not cool.

People work hard to develop the codes and routines for these effects (or even full NLEs) and so the cost to the user is justified, even if it is a challenge to afford it sometimes. I run a full, clean, purchased version of the NLEs and effects I use, and if I can't afford something I simply make do without it and find another way to do something or change what I was planning to do.

What really bugs me is that there are cheap NLEs and effects (or even free in some cases) that people can get legally if they want, so they should do that rather than pirate stuff - it's often easier to find the cheap or free legal stuff too, as a reputable search engine will find it in the first couple of links! To find pirated stuff you'd need to search deeper (from days of yore when I knew people that way inclined...) on more sketchy sites.

It just seems pointless to me and hopefully people aren't actually coming here and asking about products they've pirated.

+1. Add me to the anti-piracy choir. It's just THEFT. And we are not talking about "Les Miserables - I stole bread to feed my family" it's just being taken for fun by people with a terrible attitude.

Also, do you realize we are often providing free tech support to people who stole the software?

Every time I see "I use Sony Vegas Pro 15" or similar, I think "how did you manage to buy it and not notice it was Magix?" Answer is obvious: they didn't buy it!
